What we do
Every year many adults, children and babies die in situations where death would have been preventable if basic life support had been administered by people at the scene. Just a Few Minutes Emergency Support is a unique charity that provides FREE training in emergency first aid; What to do, how to cope and how to sustain a life until professional help arrives.
The techniques we teach can be the difference between life and death yet they are easy to learn. In our first three years of FREE training courses we trained over 700 people, of which 31 have contacted us, to say that they have had to use the life saving skills that they have been taught by our specialist team, saving more than 5 children's lives.
Our courses are run by professional doctors and nurses and will give you the confidence to assess an emergency and act appropriately. A small part of the day is given over to live presentations but the majority of the time is dedicated to hands-on practical scenarios, such as what to do if a relative or someone in your care was:
- Found face down in a swimming pool
- In a road traffic accident and appeared lifeless
- Choking right in front of you
- Discovered drinking a poisonous substance
- Suffering from an electric shock or convulsion
- Having an allergic reaction
- Overcome by smoke
- Having a fit
- Having a heart attack
Our Course Director is Dr Alan Gibson, Senior Consultant, from Jessops Maternity Wing in Sheffield. Alan is extremely well respected in his field and trains people all over the UK and abroad. Among the skills he will teach you are how to open and clear airways, check for breathing and circulation, give heart massage, put someone into the recovery position and how to give effective mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
These courses are FREE and we urge everyone to attend as soon as they can so that deaths can be prevented. Giving up a day of your free time will equip you with the skills to save lives. Contact us now to book a place.
